Monnaie de Paris pays tribute to Luis Vaz de Camoes, the 16th century Portuguese poet who is considered one of the most important Portuguese writers. After the second coin of this series, which belonged to the French writer Moliere, we are re-presenting the third coin of the Art of the Pen series - Vazo de Camoes.
The Art of the Pen
In 2021, the Monnaie de Paris launched a series focusing on literary styles and authors who have made their mark on the history of literature in France and abroad. Each year, a different literary style is highlighted, including poetry, novels, philosophical essays and theatre. Authors who have left their mark on the literary style of the year are celebrated. A common coin reverse is developed for this series. After celebrating poetry in 2021 and threatru in 2022, the Monnaie de Paris will honour other authors in 2024.
Monnaie de Paris
Founded in 1864, the Monnaie de Paris is not only France's longest-running institution, but also the world's oldest. Today, the mint mints currency for France as well as beautiful programs of gold and silver commemorative coins, each an intricately designed work of art. The mint also houses a museum, which hosts exhibitions, tours and workshops, and the Guy Savoy restaurant.
