The inner part of the coin features the Queen Elizabeth Competition logo superimposed on the left profile of Queen Elizabeth, who founded the music competition in 1937. On the left is the mintmark (the quill) and on the right the mintmark (the head of the Archangel Michael). At the lower edge of the inner part, the inscription 'QUEEN ELISABETH COMPETITION' is in a semicircle, while at the upper edge the years '1937 - 2012' are engraved, marking the 75th anniversary of the competition. The letters 'BE' to the right of the image refer to the country of issue. The outer ring depicts 12 European stars
