This coin is minted with the same security standards as the classic Maple Leaf gold coin. What makes the coins marked "SINGLE-SOURCED" special, however, is the minting and manufacturing process. The gold on the coin is obtained from one mining operation, specifically Agnico Eagle's Meliadine Mine in the Kivalliq District of Nunavut. The coin is the product of a separate refining process that preserves the integrity of the gold throughout the refining process. This series of coins is produced from a limited supply of gold that is separated at every step of the refining process - from raw material to final product.
The coin comes in a credit card sized blister pack for easy handling and storage. A certificate on the back of the card, signed by the Chief Assayer, certifies the authenticity and purity of each coin.
The obverse depicts the former Queen Elizabeth II - profile from the right. The inscriptions around Her Majesty's likeness are "ELIZABETH II" at the top edge, followed by "50 DOLLARS" as the face value and "2022" the year of issue.
The reverse of the coin features a maple leaf design by Walter Ott. Other inscriptions convey the state of mintage, weight of the coin, metal content and purity. "CANADA" is at the top, "9999" is center right and left, and "FINE GOLD" and "1 OZ OR PUR" are at the bottom.
There are 2 other important marks on the reverse. The first is a hand bearing a globe, which is a Royal Canadian Mint private mark used just for "SINGLE-SOURCED" coins. The second mark is a miniature maple leaf, inside of which is the year of mintage "22". This laser engraved mark indicates the use of RCM Bullion DNA technology, which makes it virtually impossible to counterfeit these coins.
