This coin, with its exquisite detail, is a tribute to the history of the Roman Colosseum, the magnificent monument of the Roman Empire. It has survived the ravages of time, fires, earthquakes and pillaging while retaining its imposing appearance.

The front side

A Roman gladiator with shield and sword facing a lion. This scene is reminiscent of the "spectacles" that took place in the Colosseum, where gladiators fought wild beasts for the amusement of the audience. In the background is a close-up view of the left side of the Colosseum and a schematic view of the right side to illustrate its construction and reconstruction.

Reverse side

Shows the globe with parallels and meridians on the left side and the inscriptions of the main UNESCO World Heritage Sites on the right side. The inscriptions are carved into the stone and are reminiscent of the Rosetta Stone. The UNESCO logo and the inscription 'World Heritage' surround the left side of the globe. The nominal value is engraved on the left side of the globe and blends perfectly with the parallels and meridians.

The Colosseum, the historic centre of Rome

A veritable open-air museum, the historic centre of Rome offers an immersion into more than two thousand years of history with numerous relics from antiquity. The Colosseum, for example, is a true testament to Roman engineering and architecture. With a capacity of up to 50,000 spectators, it has been the scene of many spectacles, including famous gladiatorial fights, wild animal hunts and reenactments of naval battles. The historic centre of Rome has suffered many disasters, including the Great Fire of Rome in AD 64 and the earthquake of 1349, but the city has always recovered and rebuilt.
