The beaver, which has been the official symbol of Canada since 1975, is a beloved natural engineer of the ecosystem, known for changing the environment to suit its needs. Although much of Castor canadensis' busy construction activities remain hidden from our view from land, its work is foregrounded on this coin, where the double-sided design welcomes you into the secret world of beavers by presenting different perspectives of the same scene.

Think of the coin as a body of water, with one side (reverse) representing the view from the water and the other (obverse) the view from below. On both sides, the perspective of a beaver family hard at work on their new home is stamped in extra high relief (EHR) and selectively plated in yellow gold.

This is a specially designed tribute to the instinctive ingenuity of beavers that combines the art of engineering and the spirit of the Canadian wilderness!

Your coin is housed in a unique floating capsule designed for vertical display, with extra-wide sides to ensure an unobstructed view from the front and back. It comes in black packaging with the Royal Canadian Mint logo and a black gift box.

Special features

Double EHR. What happens underwater while building a beaver castle? Find out with this coin, which has Extra High Relief (EHR) on both sides - it's a double EHR coin that offers a view of the same scene above and below the water!

Reach Higher. The Year of the Dragon 2024 coin was our first coin with a double EHR, but for 2025 we decided to raise the relief even higher, to a maximum height of 4.15mm on the obverse and 6mm on the reverse.

The Canadian beaver symbol is celebrating 50 years. The beaver became the official symbol of Canada on March 24, 1975, when the National Symbol of Canada Act (An Act to recognize the beaver [Castor canadensis] as a symbol of Canada's sovereignty) was passed.

Special packaging. Your coin is safely stored in a protective floating capsule with extra-wide sides and designed to be handled. With its eye-catching design, you'll repeatedly flip the coin to compare (and admire) different views.

Limited mintage. Only 2,750 coins are available for collectors worldwide.

Pure Canadian tradition. A great addition to a collection, a great topic of conversation and a great gift for nature lovers!

Includes certificate with serial number. The Royal Canadian Mint certifies all of its collectible coins.
