The new mintage of the silver thaler from 1780, minted by the Austrian Mint and weighing 28.07 g, is dedicated to one of the most renowned coins in Europe during the reign of Maria Theresa - the Levantine thaler.

Thereverse shows the profile of the Empress with a widow's veil surrounded by the inscriptions R.IMP.HU.BO.REG M.THERESIA.D.G.

The obverse bears the emblem of the Habsburg Monarchy (Austrian Monarchy), a black triple-crowned double-headed eagle with the arms of the territorial units in the shield. It is surrounded by the inscriptions 'BURG.CO.TYR.1780.X' and 'ARCHID.AVST.DUX.'

Maria Theresa

Maria Theresa, full name Maria Theresia Walpurga Amalia Christina, German Maria Theresia Walburga Amalia Christiana (13 May 1717 Vienna - 29 November 1780 Vienna), of the House of Habsburg, was Archduchess of Austria, Queen of Hungary (1741-1780) and Bohemia (1743-1780), Margrave of Moravia, etc. She was the only reigning woman on the Czech throne. During her reign, many reforms of the state administration, the army and education took place.

Maria Theresa was baptized on the first day of her life. She was the eldest daughter of Emperor Charles VI and Elisabeth Christina of Brunswick. Her only brother Leopold died at the age of less than seven months (before she was born). In 1730, her youngest sister, Maria Amalia, also died, only six years old. As a result of the pragmatic sanction of 1713, Maria Theresa was the de facto heir presumptive to the Habsburg lands (Austrian inheritance).

After the death of her father on 20 October 1740, Maria Theresa became ruler of the Habsburg lands, Archduchess of Austria, Duchess of Lorraine and Grand Duchess of Tuscany. The other titles (including Queen of Bohemia and Margrave of Moravia) she had to have confirmed over time, there were 20 such titles in total, including Empress Consort, which also did not offer much in the way of monarchical security.
