The Tanzanian Aurum 1000 shilling gold note with the motif of a Lake Tanganyika catfish is the first legal tender Aurum® issued by the Central Bank of Tanzania.
Both sides of the Tanzanian Aurum 1,000 shilling gold banknote with Lake Tanganyika catfish motif are decorated with water colours, motifs and shapes. The obverse side features a detailed image of the large cuckoo catfish (Synodontis Multipunctatus), which is found exclusively in Lake Tanganyika. The reverse side depicts a dhow, a traditional sailing boat used for fishing and transport on Lake Tanganyika.
